Nokia: deploys shared wireless network in Denmark

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia said on Wednesday that in Denmark, alongside local telecom operators Telenor and Telia, it has deployed a shared wireless network that is prepared for technologies spanning from 2G to 5G.

The so-called "multi-operator core network" (MOCN) has been deployed on a trial network in Denmark and verified with successful end-to-end test calls.

Its architecture model allows for network sharing, enabling distinct mobile operators with their own core network to share a common radio access network infrastructure as well as spectrum resources.

"Deploying 5G networks independently can be an expensive undertaking for mobile operators in the most competitive markets," Tommi Uitto, the head of mobile networks at Nokia, said.

Network sharing allows operators to lower costs while benefitting from 5G.
