Nokia: warns on malicious software in the Internet of things
(CercleFinance.com) - The use of malicious software to attack IoT devices, such as smart home security monitoring systems, is rising substantially as cyber criminals take advantage of lax security, Nokia warned in a report on Tuesday.
The so-called "botnet" activity - when viruses are used to control computers - accounted for 78% of malware detection events in communication service provider networks in 2018, according to the report, which is based on data aggregated from over 150 million devices where Nokia's cybersecurity products are deployed.
That is up sharply from 33% in 2016, Nokia said.
