Nokia: to merge mobile and fixed networks ahead of 5G
(CercleFinance.com) - Finnish telecoms gear maker Nokia plans to merge its mobile networks and fixed networks divisions, with changes occurring in 2019, to fully exploit opportunities of 5G, the company said on Thursday.
The so-called "Access Networks Division" will allow Nokia to strengthen its advantage for 5G with an end-to-end portfolio, and better align its organisational structure to its current strategy, the company said.
"By creating a single (...) organization that includes both fixed and mobile, we can improve our customer focus, simplify our management structure, and more efficiently leverage our full portfolio," said Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Suri.
With these changes, Marc Rouanne, who has been serving as president of mobile networks for many years, will leave Nokia.
Nokia shares were down 2.5% after this announcement, underperforming the STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Telecommunications index, which is down 0.5%.
