Nokia: MoU for Saudi air-to-ground trial network
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia has announced signing a memorandum of understanding with STC Business to collaborate on the launch of an air-to-ground pilot network in Saudi Arabia, following the successful trial based on an LTE-based air-to-ground solution in a flight from Riyadh and Jeddah.
The telecom supplier explains that its technology "provides significant advantage over traditional satellite-based communications system for in-flight broadband systems" and improves airline passengers' experiences.
For this trial network, Nokia has provided a fully dedicated end-to-end network, including its LTE air-to-ground radio access network, core infrastructure and applications. The MoU was announced at the 2018 Dubai GITEX Technology Week.
