IAG: considers making full offer for Norwegian
(CercleFinance.com) - International Airlines Group is considering making a full offer for budget carrier Norwegian, although discussions have not yet begun, the airline group said on Thursday.
In reaction to recent press speculation, IAG said it has acquired a 4.6% stake in Norwegian - which it considers to be an "attractive investment" - with this minority investment intended to establish a position from which to initiate discussions with the low-cost airline, IAG said.
However, IAG said that it has taken no decision to make an offer at this time and that there is no certainty that any such decision will be made.
After this statement, shares in IAG are down 2.7% at 599 pence, while the Norwegian stock was soaring over 18% in Oslo.
