Grifols: new data support Alzheimer's experimental treatment
(CercleFinance.com) - New data supports the effectiveness of Grifols' clinical trial to treat Alzheimer's, the Spanish blood products company said on Monday.
The healthcare company today presented "encouraging" results of a clinical trial for the treatment of Alzheimer's at a congress on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's in Lisbon.
A positive effect has been observed in all the cognitive aspects analysed so far in the clinical trial, for all patients, while patients with moderate phases of the disease showed positive results in memory, it said.
Grifols' treatment is based on plasma exchange, replacing it with a specific albumin solution known for its antioxidant, immune modulatory and anti-inflammatory properties.
But Grifols said it will continue to work with "prudence," in particular as many other clinical trials on Alzheimer's have been recently withdrawn.
Yet, the shares were up 1.5% in Madrid today, largely outperforming a 0.6% rise in the IBEX 35 index.
