Siemens Healthineers: launches rapid COVID-19 antigen test
(CercleFinance.com) - German medical imaging equipment maker Siemens Healthineers on Wednesday said it has launched a COVID-19 antigen test that can deliver results in 15 minutes.
The company said the "Clinitest" is easy to administer for healthcare professionals, using the nasopharyngeal swab method. Once a sample is collected, the swab is inserted into a tube with special liquid to extract the target molecule, then dispensing it onto a test cassette.
In 15 minutes, a positive or negative result is clearly indicated, Siemens Healthineers said in a statement.
The CE marked test demonstrated 96.7% sensitivity and 99.2% specificity based on a clinical study of 317 subjects, it said.
The test has not yet received authorisation from US regulators, but there are plans to submit the test for FDA emergency use authorisation, the manufacturer added.
