Bayer: optimistic tone at AGM

(CercleFinance.com) - The pharmaceutical and agrochemical company Bayer said on Friday that it was on the right track at its AGM, held at its Leverkusen base.

The company's CEO Werner Baumann said that the group had succeeded in its 2021 financial year - both from an operational and strategic point of view, by managing to exceed its forecasts even though the year was supposed to be a year of transition.

Bayer was optimistic about 2022, saying that it expected its business to continue to grow, despite the uncertainty stemming from the conflict in Ukraine.

The company said it had made a "particularly successful" start to 2022. Q1 results are due out on Tuesday 10 May.

At Friday's AGM shareholders ratified the payment of an annual dividend of two euros per share.

However, after rising over 1.5% on Friday, Bayer shares fell back slightly on Monday morning.

Since the beginning of the year, the share has nevertheless risen by more than 28%, making it by far the best performer in the DAX index and the Euro STOXX 50 this year.
