Bayer: invests E400m to improve contraception
(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer today announced a 400 million euro investment to expand its production capacity in Turku, Finland, and build a new production facility in Alajuela, Costa Rica, as part of its commitment to provide access to family planning for 100 million women by 2030.
In Costa Rica, Bayer will build a new state-of-the-art production facility specialising in the production and supply of long-acting reversible contraceptives, primarily for low- and middle-income countries. The facility is expected to be operational by 2024.
In addition, the expansion of production capacity in Turku, Finland, is expected to be completed by 2025. The site will take advantage of automation and robotics to produce long-acting reversible contraceptives.
Both sites will produce hormonal implants and hormonal intrauterine systems (IUS), Bayer says.
