Bayer: FDA grants breakthrough designation to AI software
(CercleFinance.com) - German pharma giant Bayer said on Monday that the FDA has granted breakthrough designation to software that is designed to recognise chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, a rare form of pulmonary hypertension.
Bayer announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted breakthrough device designation to the so-called "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Pattern Recognition Software" that Bayer is currently developing with US partner Merck.
CTEPH affects an estimated 5 people per million each year and can be difficult to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to those of other conditions, such as asthma or COPD.
