Bayer: conditions to integrate Monsanto fulfilled
(CercleFinance.com) - Today, The Bayer group announces that it will begin to integrate Monsanto, having finalised the sale of certain agrochemical activities to BASF.
Remember that Bayer has become the sole owner of the agricultural biotechnology giant since 7 June.
"The acquisition of Monsanto gives rise to a leading agriculture company with a high level of innovative strength, a strong product portfolio and the highest ethical standards," Bayer said.
The group also reacted to a California glyphosate verdict on 10 August, which ordered Monsanto to pay 289 million dollars to Dewayne Johnson, an American gardener who developed cancer as a result of using its products.
The group stated, “Bayer believes that the jury's decision is at odds with the weight of scientific evidence... As this case proceeds, Bayer believes courts ultimately will find that Monsanto and glyphosate were not responsible for Mr. Johnson's illness.”
