BASF: introduces new CO2-reducing catalyst
(CercleFinance.com) - BASF is launching CircleStar, an innovative dehydration catalyst for processing renewable feedstock.
The new catalyst achieves 99.5% selectivity for the conversion of ethanol to ethylene (E2E).
With an operating temperature that is over 25°C less than conventional processes, CircleStar can reduce the carbon footprint in the bioethylene value chain by more than 10% for products ranging from paraffin to plastics.
The advanced performance of this innovative catalyst is due to its unique star shape which maximises the geometrically active surface area for the reaction.
The new geometry also improves mass transfer and extends catalyst life through an advantageous temperature and pressure drop profile.
BASF says that the new CircleStar will help its clients significantly increase their production efficiency while reducing carbon emissions and supporting their net zero goals.
