Siemens: Brussels slams brakes on Alstom merger

(CercleFinance.com) - According to the site politico.
eu, the European Commission is preparing to decide on the proposed merger of Siemens Mobility (the German conglomerate's rail division) and Alstom, stating that, in its current state, this "deal" is "incompatible" with the rules governing the single market.

This supposes that the European competition regulator will require corrective measures - to include (major) disposals.

"Brussels has reached a preliminary conclusion that the deal is “incompatible” with the internal market, according to two people who have seen the European Commission's list of concerns about the merger, which the companies received at the end of last month," the site writes.

Due to the dominant position that Siemens Mobility-Alstom would have, disposals could therefore be required in the segments of high-speed trains, signaling and control equipment, regional trains and metros.
