Daimler: update on bus division
(CercleFinance.com) - As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world bus markets have recorded a significant drop of nearly 40% in 2020, with the main markets for Daimler buses slumping 45%, the German auto giant said.
On the main European market, the so-called EU 30, (European Union + Norway and Switzerland), the coach market even plummeted almost 60% in 2020 relative to the previous year.
In spite of these difficult structural conditions, Daimler Buses announces that it has been able to maintain its position as undisputed market leader in the EU 30, in addition to Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Turkey.
For 2021, the situation on the bus markets is expected to remain tense, which in particular, is reflected by very low new orders.
Till Oberwörder, Head of Daimler Buses, said, "We are not mortgaging our future and continue to invest in our strategic projects such as CO2-neutral mobility," adding that. "When the pandemic is behind us people will want to travel again, which will normalize our business."
