Daimler: to propose former BMW, VW chief as chairman
(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler said on Thursday its board will propose that Bernd Pischetsrieder, the former chief of BMW and Volkswagen, is appointed chairman.
The step comes as the term of office of the carmaker's longstanding chairman, Manfred Bischoff, expires at next year's shareholder meeting, meaning that he will step down from the supervisory board.
Pischetsrieder has been the chairman of BMW's board of management from 1993 to 2000. After moving to Volkswagen, he was also named chairman of the board of management from 2002 to 2006.
From 2013 to 2019, he was chairman of the supervisory Board of German reinsurance company Munich Re. He has been a member of the supervisory board of Daimler since 2014.
On Thursday, Daimler said it will propose Cisco's strategy chief Elizabeth Centoni, Shell CEO Ben van Beurden and BASF's boss Martin Brudermuller to be appointed on its supervisory board.
