Daimler: still optimistic about outlook for trucks division

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler's trucks unit yesterday confirmed its forecast of a "significant increase" in unit sales and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for 2018.

At its Capital Market & Technology Day, Daimler Trucks said that it has already sold a total of about 21% more trucks and buses in the first quarter of 2018 than it did in the equivalent period of the previous year.

Daimler Trucks also announced the creation of a new research and development (R&D) center in Portland, Oregon, aiming to further develop automated driving technology.

Daimler also premiered two fully electrified commercial vehicles, a Freightliner heavy-duty truck and a Freightliner medium-duty truck during the event.

In addition, Freightliner plans to deliver an electric fleet of 30 vehicles to customers later this year.

However, UBS analysts thought that the meeting brought "limited new info," in particular regarding a potential listing of its trucks division.
