Merck KGaA: to accelerate plans in OLED display materials
(CercleFinance.com) - Merck said it plans to accelerate the commercialization of new materials for the manufacturing of flexible, foldable and rollable OLED displays.
The German pharmaceuticals and chemicals company today announced partnerships with Finland's Optitune Oy and South Korea's Solip Tech to bring the first products under a new umbrella brand, "liviFlex", that offers customizable hard coat solutions.
These polymerizable solutions cover all technology parameters for free-form displays, which are thinner and more flexible, and allow smartphone makers to sell curved, sleeker-looking devices.
This market is one of the fastest-growing trends in data-driven electronics, Merck said.
With revenues of free-form displays set to reach 8.9 billion dollars by 2025, 13 times more than today, OLED displays are one of Merck's investment priorities for future growth, the group said.
