Merck KGaA: announces partnership with Siemens in production
(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Merck announced on Thursday a partnership with industrial group Siemens for the digitalization of its production.
Under the deal, the drugs and chemicals maker will adopt new process control systems for the production of materials and products for the electronics, pharmaceutical and life science industries.
A first modular plant is to be built at Merck's flagship Darmstadt site by 2022, in which the German company will invest 10 million euros.
The project is part of a bigger, one-billion-euro investment program that Merck announced last year for its global headquarters in Darmstadt, up until 2025.
The plan will be partly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy as this modular, flexible production process will cut the plant's carbon footprint.
