Merck KGaA: shares up after encouraging cancer drug data

(CercleFinance.com) - Shares of Germany's Merck KGaA are up over 4% on Thursday after the company said it would present encouraging results for two therapeutic agents at this year's American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting (ASCO).

The group will present further evidence for M7824, including results in patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers and data in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with the latter having overall response rate of 40.7%.

For tepotinib, new data to be presented, include "promising" initial results from an ongoing Phase II study providing further indication for the potential for patients living with advanced NSCLC, Merck said.

Analysts at Bryan Garnier said the results were "very encouraging."

ASCO meeting will take place between 1 and 5 June in Chicago.
