Merck KGaA: sells consumer health business to P&G

(CercleFinance.com) - Merck has signed an agreement to sell its consumer health business to Procter & Gamble for approximately 3.
4 billion euros in cash, the German company said on Thursday.

The chemicals and pharmaceuticals group said that it intends to use the proceeds to accelerate deleveraging and to strengthen its three core divisions (healthcare, life science and performance materials).

The transaction is expected to be closed by the end of Q4 2018.

In September 2017 Merck announced that it was preparing strategic options for the consumer health division, which includes brands such as the Seven Seas nutrition line and the nasal decongestant Nasivin.
