Merck KGaA: exploring 'options' for consumer health business
(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Merck said on Tuesday it was examining strategic options for its consumer health division, including a potential full or partial sale of the business, as well as strategic partnerships.
The Darmstadt-based company - which wants to become a "science and technology company" - said the process was still at an "early stage," with no final decision taken.
Merck's consumer health arm has a number of over-the-counter (OTC) products and generated net sales of 860 million euros in 2016.
Any possible proceeds from a potential transaction would be used to deliver on the company's overall financial targets, the group said.
Frankfurt-listed shares of Merck are currently trading at around 94.2 euros on Tuesday morning, up over 2.4%.
