Fraport: October passenger traffic dives 83%

(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Fraport reported a 83% drop in October passenger numbers at its Frankfurt airport, its main hub, as demand remained subdued due to the persistent travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the past month, the Frankfurt airport served just 1.1 million passengers, compared to some 6.4 million passengers in the same month last year, the operator said.

Fraport said, however, that the airport recorded a "very positive" cargo performance in October, posting year-on-year growth for the first time in 15 months.

Frankfurt's cargo throughput (comprising airfreight and airmail) grew by 1.6% in the last month, to 182,061 metric tons, it said.

Cumulative passenger traffic over January to October is still down 71.6%, Fraport said.
