Deutsche Telekom: EU opens in-depth study into Tele2 deal
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission said on Wednesday that it has opened an in-depth investigation into the proposed acquisition of Tele2 in the Netherlands by Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile.
The Commission is concerned that the merger could lead to higher prices, and reduce choice and innovation for customers in the Netherlands by combining the third and fourth largest operators in the Dutch retail mobile telecommunications market.
"This would reduce the number of mobile network operators in the Netherlands from four to three," the Commission writes in a statement.
The Commission now has 90 working days, until 17 October, to take a decision.
