Deutsche Telekom: T-Mobile to acquire UPC Austria
(CercleFinance.com) - Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile will buy UPC Austria, Austria's leading cable provider, based on an enterprise value of 1.
9 billion euros.
T-Mobile Austria said the plan is to become a "strong converged challenger" and alternative to incumbent market leader A1 Telekom Austria.
In particular, T-Mobile plans to bring quadruple play offerings to customers and to broaden service through LTE, digital cable, fiber and future technologies, such as 5G.
"We see a significant potential to accelerate growth in the Austrian market," said Srini Gopalan, Board Member of Deutsche Telekom for Europe.
The transaction, which still requires approval from the relevant competition authorities, is expected to be closed in the second half of 2018.
Last week T-Mobile said it would acquire Tele2's Dutch business in a deal aiming at attacking the market leading duopoly consisting of KPN and VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands.
