BMW: Parsdorf battery plant to be launched this autumn
(CercleFinance.com) - BMW announced on Monday that it plans to open its new pilot plant dedicated to the production of lithium-ion battery cells in the autumn.
The 15,000-square-metre site in Parsdorf, near Munich, will enable the German carmaker to strengthen its expertise in the battery value chain in preparation for the launch of its new "Neue Klasse" electric vehicle platform.
The project, which represents an investment of 170 million euros partly financed by a grant from the Bavarian state, expects to employ about 80 people.
Production is scheduled to start by the end of the year.
