BMW: production using regional 'green' electricity
(CercleFinance.com) - The BMW group has announced the manufacture of electric cars with regional "green" electricity, i.
e. from renewable sources.
The group will power the production of the new BMW iX and BMW i4 electric cars at the Dingolfing and Munich plants entirely with regional 'green' hydroelectricity.
Contracts have been signed with Stadtwerke München and RWE Supply & Trading for the energy that will be supplied by hydropower from the rivers Isar and Lech.
The German carmaker said that it is striving to reduce the carbon footprint of its production processes considerably. It already supplies its production sites worldwide entirely with green electricity.
The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions by a further 80% by 2030.
