BMW: 'strategic' targets for sustaibale development
(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday from its headquarters in Munich BMW unveiled its sustainable development targets through to 2030, which the German car maker says it considers "strategic".
The manufacturer says it first of all intends to reduce its CO2 emissions by 80% over the next 10 years after having already reduced them by 70% since 2006.
BMW says that this means that its CO2 emissions in 2030 will represent under 10% of its emissions for the year 2006.
The group also says it wants to reduce the CO2 emissions of its vehicles by at least a third throughout their lifecycle, a target that represents a total of more than 40 million tonnes by 2030 based on the 2.5 million vehicles produced last year.
BMW says that it also plans to put more than seven million electrified vehicles on the road over the next ten years, two-thirds of which should be equipped with all-electric transmissions.
The group - which intends to be supplied with 100% green electricity as from this year - also says it intends to invest heavily in digital technologies, and in particular analytical data, in order to continue to reduce its carbon footprint.
