BMW: launches ride-hailing service in China
(CercleFinance.com) - BMW has launched a ride-hailing service in Chengdu, becoming the first foreign company to obtain a license to operate a ride-hailing service in China.
The German carmaker said that half the fleet of 200 BMW 5 Series will be sustainable plug-in-hybrid vehicles.
BMW already launched a car-sharing business in Chengdu in December 2017, which was in partnership with electric vehicle rental firm EvCard, and based on a fleet of 100 BMW i3 electric vehicles.
The new ride-hailing service is intended for clients who do not wish to get behind the wheel themselves, but would prefer to book a car with a driver, BMW said.
