BMW: August sales up 2.1%

(CercleFinance.com) - German carmaker BMW said its sales rose by 2.
1% in August from the year-earlier period, to 173,454 units, despite what the group called a "highly competitive situation."

"In Europe, regulatory changes introduced at the beginning of September mean the market is exceptionally competitive at the moment, and likely to remain so for the coming weeks," the company's head of sales and brand, Pieter Nota, said in a statement Thursday.

The carmaker added that political and economic uncertainty in some European markets has also dampened sales.

On a brighter note, electrified sales soared over 60% in the past month compared with August last year, it said.

In the January-August period, total group sales rose by 1.6% to 1.6 million units compared with the same period last year, BMW said.
