BMW Group: May sales down 2.1%

(CercleFinance.com) - German carmaker BMW Group said its sales fell 2.
1% year-on-year in May, to 204,041 units, due to headwinds in the UK market and several bank holidays.

In the January-May period, however, group sales - which include BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce - rose by 1.6% to 1,003,573 units, BMW said.

This record result was achieved despite the ongoing global ramp-up of BMW X3 production and volatility in China due to changes in import duties, some factors that also contributed to the decrease in May sales, it added.

BMW said that sales of BMW X SUV vehicles in the first five months of the year rose by 3.4% to 303,202 units, accounting for 35.3% of all BMW brand sales.

The Frankfurt-listed BMW share was up 0.3% at 85.7 euros after these figures were published this morning.
