Alcon: shares begin trading in Zurich
(CercleFinance.com) - The shares of Alcon, the largest eye care device company in the world, began trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange today, after the group completed its separation from Novartis.
After opening at 54.8 Swiss francs this morning, the shares have continued to rise and are trading at over 58 Swiss francs around an hour after the market opened.
Novartis estimated Alcon's market capitalisation at around 25 billion Swiss francs (about 22 billion euros).
A week ago, each Novartis shareholder received one Alcon share for every five Novartis shares they held.
Novartis shares are currently down 9.8% in Zurich.
Alcon shares will begin trading later today on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
