Nestlé: details net-zero emissions plans

(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss food giant Nestlé on Tuesday explained how it planned to reach its 2050 net-zero climate goal for Europe, Middle East, and North Africa.

As nearly two-thirds of its emissions come from agriculture, the company said it will change, with its suppliers, the way food is produced, turning to more regenerative farming.

Nestlé said it is focusing on initiatives such as healthy soils, net-zero dairy farms, and sustainably sourced cocoa and coffee. By 2025, 100% of the cocoa and coffee it uses will be sustainably sourced.

The world's largest food company - which is rethinking its manufacturing and distribution processes - said it also wants to make its packaging more circular.

By 2025, Nestlé plans to have all of its 800 global sites using 100% renewable electricity. In Europe, Middle East, and North Africa, 80 factories out of its 130 plants already use electricity from 100%-renewable sources.
