Nestlé: teams up with Carrefour on blockchain project
(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss food giant Nestlé and French retailer Carrefour will test a blockchain platform over the next few months, aiming to share product information with consumers.
As part of the project, consumers will be able to use their smartphones to scan a QR code on the Mousline purée packaging, letting them trace the product's journey from the Nestlé factory in the north of France to Carrefour shelves.
Consumers will also be able to see the production date, quality control parameters, storage times and the location of warehouses, the companies said.
Nestlé started using blockchain technology with IBM in 2017 to reinforce the traceability of food products. Carrefour joined their partnership last year.
