Nestlé: takes minority stake in US company Freshly.
(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé has bought a minority stake in Freshly, a provider of direct-to-consumer (DTC) healthy prepared meals, in a move to enter a market that is currently worth 10 billion dollars in the US and which is expected to report strong growth.
The Swiss food giant said that it was the leading investor in the 77 million dollars round of new funding announced by Freshly yesterday.
The investment is intended to help Freshly fund the construction of a new East Coast kitchen and distribution center in 2018, as the company prepares to expand to nationwide service.
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in New York, Freshly currently has clients for its a weekly subscription service in 28 states.
