ABB: wins propulsion deal with Italian shipbuilder
(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss engineering group ABB has won a 150 million dollar contract from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to supply propulsion equipment for cruise ships, the company said on Tuesday.
ABB will equip the five newbuild vessels with its Azipod electric propulsion, cutting fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to conventional shaftline systems, it said in a statement.
The vessels ships are set to be commissioned between 2023 and 2026.
Over 100 cruise vessels are already equpped with the Azipod technology, which is considered as the industry standard in the cruise market since it was launched three decades ago, ABB said.
