ABB: wins Chinese cruise ship propulsion order
(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss engineering group ABB has won a deal to supply propulsion systems as part of the construction of China's first ever home-grown cruise ship, the company said on Tuesday.
ABB will supply an integrated package, including two units which are proven to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15%, reduce both noise and vibration and offer 360-degree maneuverability.
The 323-metre long vessel, due for delivery in 2023, will accommodate 5,000 passengers.
According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the number of Chinese cruise travellers is expected to rise to 8-10 million annually by 2025.
