ABB: to restructure transformer business.
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB said on Monday that it plans to restructure its transformer manufacturing business, due to increased competition and consolidation in the rail industry.
ABB is planning to discontinue production at its unit in St. Louis, Missouri, in the US which will now focus on engineering and service activities.
In Europe, production of traction transformers will be consolidated in Lodz, Poland, which will become the main manufacturing hub for rail customers in the region.
In Asia, the company will invest in upgrading its Datong traction transformer facility in China to improve efficiency and meet growing demand.
The move is part of ABB's Power Grids division transformation program, the Swiss engineering company said.
