Credit Suisse: board proposes Horta-Osorio as chairman

(CercleFinance.com) - Credit Suisse said on Tuesday that it is proposing the current chief executive of Lloyds as its next chairman, in a move that comes after a successful period of restructuring and de-risking.

The Swiss private bank said Antonio Horta-Osorio, 56, would replace Urs Rohner, the current chairman of its board of directors, if elected at the company's AGM next April.

Rohner has been chairman since 2011.

Credit Suisse, which has refocused on its wealth management franchise, said the appointment comes after its board has reviewed numerous "well-qualified" personalities.

Antonio Horta-Osorio has been the chief executive of Lloyds Banking Group, the largest retail and commercial bank in the UK, since 2011.

A Portuguese citizen, Osorio previously held positions at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, but spent most of his career working for Spanish banking giant Santander.
