Roche: FDA approves serology test for Covid-19 antibodies
(CercleFinance.com) - The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a new serology test that has been developed by Roche, which specifically detects the level of Covid-19 antibodies, the Swiss drugmaker said on Wednesday.
The new test targets antibodies that are directed against the spike protein, and more specifically the area that enables the virus to bind to a host cell receptor, which is required for the virus to enter the host cell.
This test may help identify recovering patients who could potentially be serum and plasma donors for developing treatments for Covid-19, Roche said.
The spike protein is the target of many coronavirus vaccines that are being developed.
Roche also said on Wednesday that the FDA has approved its Gavreto drug for people with advanced or metastatic RET-mutant and RET fusion-positive thyroid cancers.
Yesterday the company received FDA approval for a supplemental application for Xolair for the add-on maintenance treatment of nasal polyps in adults with inadequate response to nasal corticosteroids.
