Umicore: upbeat after strong first-half performance.

(CercleFinance.com) - Belgium-based specialty materials group Umicore has said it is confident that it will reach EBIT at the high end of its previous guidance this year after a strong performance in the first half.

The group, which recycles precious metals from old computers and mobile phones, said revenues excluding discontinued operations rose by 13% to 1.4 billion euros.

The company's recurring operating profit (EBIT) reached 195 million euros (+26%) excluding discontinued operations.

For 2017, Umicore - which has decided to stop issuing quarterly trading updates - expects full-year recurrent EBIT to be at the high end of its previous guidance range of 370 million to 400 million euros.

Excluding discontinued operations, this equates to the upper end of a range of 355 million-385 million euros.

Umicore shares were up 1.7% at 67.3 euros this morning, making them one the best performers in the BEL 20 index of blue-chip Belgian stocks.
