SLB: a more environmentally friendly cementing process
(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday the US oil and gas company SLB unveiled a new low-carbon, polymer-based well cementing technology.
The former Schlumberger said the that EcoShield range can reduce the carbon footprint of a well under construction by 85% compared to conventional cementing processes.
In the Permian Basin, the technique has been deployed by Pioneer Natural Resources in a test phase involving 18 wells, leading Pioneer to adopt the formulation.
For SLB, the technology has the potential to avoid the emission of five tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to the pollution of 1.1 million cars each year.
