AT&T: working to bring 5G connectivity for GM vehicles

(CercleFinance.com) - General Motors (GM) has announced that it is working with AT&T to bring 5G cellular connectivity to millions of GM vehicles rolling off the assembly line over the next decade in the US.


GM and AT&T are working together to set the standard for automotive connectivity with fifth-generation cellular network architecture and meet the needs of a fully electric and autonomous future, GM said.

Improved network, faster downloads, reliable and secure software updates, improved navigation, mapping and voice systems... 5G connectivity will be available in selected vehicles from 2024. In addition, 2019 vehicles equipped with 4G LTE, as well as newer vehicles, will be able to take advantage of this 5th generation network, it added.

The rollout is part of GM and AT&T's broad strategy to launch the world's largest fleet of 5G-compatible vehicles.

Yesterday AT&T shares closed down about 1%, while GM fell by about 0.3%, in a slightly bearish market.
