Airbus: Ariane 5 launcher places two satellites

(CercleFinance.com) - The Ariane 5 launcher has placed two telecommunications satellites into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO): the JCSAT-17 satellite for SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation and the GEO-KOMPSAT-2B satellite for the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI-Korea Aerospace Research Institute).

This is the second mission of the year from the European spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.

The total performance requested from the launcher was 10,109 kg, including 9,236 kg for the two payloads placed into orbit on a 6° tilt.

While Ariane 6 will make its first flight this year, nine Ariane 5 launches are still planned until 2023. This will enable a smooth transition between the two launchers, always with the same reliability and an ever-increasing payload capacity, Airbus said.
