STMicro: extends supply agreement with Cree

(CercleFinance.com) - Cree and STMicroelectronics announce that they have extended their agreement for the long-term supply of silicon carbide (SiC) wafers.

This will mean the extension of their agreement will be doubled in value to over 500 million dollars.

Cree will supply STMicroelectronics with 150mm silicon carbide wafers with and without epitaxy over the next few years.

This will meet the rapid growth in global demand for SiC power components, particularly for automotive and industrial applications.

"It will further contribute to securing the required volume of substrate we need to manufacture our SiC-based products as we ramp up production over the next years for the increasing number of programs won at automotive and industrial customers," said Jean-Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics.
