STMicroelectronics: takes majority stake in Norstel

(CercleFinance.com) - STMicroelectronics announces that it has signed an agreement to acquire a 55% majority stake in Norstel, a Swedish manufacturer of advanced 150mm silicon carbide (SiC) bare and epitaxial wafers.


The Franco-Italian semi-conductor manufacturer will also have an option
to acquire the remaining 45%, subject to certain conditions, which, if
exercised, will result in a total price of 137.5 million dollars, paid
from its available cash.

"After closing, ST will control the entire supply chain for a portion of
its SiC devices at a time of constrained global capacity and positions
itself for a significant growth opportunity," STMicroelectronics said.
