Ryanair: appeals against state aid to its competitors

(CercleFinance.com) - Ryanair today announces that it has noted the decisions of the General Court of the European Union concerning Finnish, Danish and Swedish state aid in favour of Finnair and SAS and announces that it will now ask the EU Court of Justice to overturn these unfair subsidies in the interests of competition and consumers.

The low-cost airline recalls that Finnair and SAS have received respectively 1.2 billion and 1.3 billion euros in aid since the start of the pandemic. Ryanair had referred the matter to European justice in June 2020, arguing that these are "unfair subsidies" which go against the fundamental principles of EU law.

"Today's judgments set the process of liberalisation in air transport back by 30 years by allowing Finland, Denmark and Sweden to give their national flag carriers a leg up over more efficient competitors, based purely on nationality", Ryanair laments.

Standing on its own two feet, the share is up 2.5% an hour from close.
