Barclays: beats consensus, but fails to impress

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday Barclays reported a 9% y-o-y increase in quarterly profit, boosted by its fixed income, currency and commodities (FICC) business.


This morning the British bank reported taxable profit of 1.97 billion pounds (2.27 billion euros) for Q3, up from 1.86 billion pounds a year ago and above the consensus of around 1.80 billion pounds.

The FICC division's revenues soared 63% to 4.72 billion pounds in the quarter as clients enjoyed sustained levels of activity as they sought to exploit the highly volatile financial markets.

The share is currently down about 1% in a flat market in London.
