AstraZeneca: FDA approves new use for cancer drug

(CercleFinance.com) - The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a new use for AstraZeneca and Daiichi's cancer drug, Enhertu, in patients with advanced stomach cancer.

The agency approved Enhertu for the treatment of adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic HER2-positive gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma who have received a prior trastuzumab-based regimen.

Stomach cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the third leading cause of cancer mortality with a five-year survival rate of just 5% for metastatic disease.

Approximately one in five gastric cancers are HER2 positive.

Enhertu is approved in the US and Japan for the treatment of adult patients with HER2-positive breast cancer.
