BP: starts offshore gas production in Egypt

(CercleFinance.com) - BP today announced the start of gas production from its new facility offshore Egypt - the Qattameya gas field in the North Damietta offshore concession.


The field, which is expected to produce up to 1.4 million cubic metres of gas per day, has been developed by the Pharaonic Petroleum Company, a BP joint venture - through the construction of a subsea well connected to pre-existing infrastructure.

By building on BP's existing assets and extensive infrastructure offshore Egypt, BP has been able to develop Qattameya efficiently and cost-effectively, the group said.

BP says that gas production from the field will be directed into the Egyptian national grid.
