BP: starts production at Egyptian offhsore field
(CercleFinance.com) - BP has started production at one of its promising gas fields, offshore Egypt, which has been developed as a deepwater, long-distance tie-back to an existing onshore plant, the oil and gas giant said on Monday.
The project, which includes eight wells, currently produces around 400 million cubic feet of gas per day and is expected to ramp up to a maximum rate of approximately 700 million cubic feet per day, BP said.
This is the second stage of the West Nile Delta project which has brought 21 new upstream major projects into production over the last three years.
When fully onstream in 2019, combined production from all three phases of West Nile Delta is expected to reach up to nearly 1.4 billion cubic feet per day, equivalent to about 20% of Egypt's current gas production.
